The street is no place to grow up, yet on any given night hundreds of Maine’s children and adolescents learn life’s most important lessons far away from the comforts most of us take for granted. Some have run away or been thrown out of family homes, some are struggling with mental health or substance abuse conditions, and some are just the unfortunate victims of bad circumstances. None of them belong on the street and you can do something to help them.
In honor of United Way of Mid-Maine's 60th Anniversary, we are hosting a Walk/Run to Help End Youth Homelessness. On Saturday, May 3, 2014 in Waterville (Alfond Youth Center) and Skowhegan (New Balance). Registration begins @ 9:00 a.m. Walk / Run begins @ 10:00 a.m.
100% of the funds raised will be used for UWMM's Youth Homelessness program that is coordinated with several school districts in our catchment area. The program provides basic needs for youth who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness with the secondary goal of keeping them from dropping out of school.
Click here for a program flyer. We have a team registration form as well as an individual sponsor sheet. There is no minimum amount that needs to be raised in order to participate. Prizes will be awarded to: the team with the most members; the team that raises the most money; and the individual who raises the most money.
