How Does United Way Work?
United Way of Mid-Maine works with 27 local non-profit agencies to increase the quality of education, income, and health for all. Our mission is improving people's lives advancing the common good of all by mobilizing the caring power of our communities.
Here at United Way of Mid-Maine, we work collaboratively with the people of Northern Kennebec, Western Waldo, and Somerset counties to discover the needs of their neighbors and set the following goals in the areas of Education, Income, and Health:
Each goal is backed by a Community Impact Team (CIT) made up of volunteers from the community who create and fulfill critical objectives for that goal, as well as allocates funds and steers initiatives.
Using these grants and other sources of funding, our Partner Agencies work hard to improve the community in the most crucial, long-lasting ways. United Way of Mid-Maine serves more than 25,000 people in our community each year and supports engagement by weaving together people, information, and resources to create endless possibilities. The key to our success is the people around us, whether it is business leaders, service providers, donors, or extraordinary friends and neighbors like you.
Each fall, United Way partners with countless local businesses, organizations, and community leaders to encourage people to invest in their community's future. Unless designated to one of our partner agencies or local initiatives, each dollar is added to the Community Impact Fund, which multiplies the value of each dollar funneled back into our communities.
These funds are then invested back into the community into via special projects like the Youth Homelessness Initiative, and grants to our many Partner Agencies.
