United Way of Mid-Maine, along with Plum Creek and other sponsors in northern Somerset county, has been offering the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program to children 5 and younger in the towns of Bingham and Jackman over the last few years. The Imagination Library sends a free book every month to participating families with a pre-school aged child. This is one of our favorite programs here at United Way of Mid-Maine and we’d love to see it grow in our service area. The program itself is very easy to manage. A non-profit (or often a non-profit and business partner(s) like ours) sponsors the program in a town (or towns) with the help of the town office. Once the program officially begins, with each new child born, the child’s family is invited to participate in the program for free. The sponsor(s) pay the cost of the books and shipping, about $30/year per child. The non-profit manages the data base and the books are delivered directly to the child from the Imagination Library. Any organization or business in Somerset, northern Kennebec or western Waldo counties that is interested in working with UWMM to expand the program to a town in our service area can request a program packet with additional information by e-mailing Tina Chapman at firstname.lastname@example.org. More information is also available at http://usa.imaginationlibrary.com/. Thank you!
