United Way of Mid-Maine, in collaboration with several local businesses, sponsors the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in the towns of Jackman and Bingham. Developed by the Dollywood Foundation, the Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a book delivery program that provides a book a month to every willing family with a pre-school child in Jackman and Bingham. Family literacy, especially in the first five years of life, has shown to positively affect brain development in children, communication and literary skills and overall school readiness. Books are provided to the family for free, one per month from birth until the child “graduates” to Kindergarten. Books are selected by a national panel of experts and are age appropriate for the recipient.
If you have a child under the age of 3 and live in Jackman and Bingham, your child is eligible to particpate in the program. Please contact us at 873-0686 to enroll.
We are currently looking at expanding the program to include all of Somerset County.
