Born Learning

United Way is a national partner of born learning, along with the AD Council and Civitas.  Born Learning is an innovative public engagement campaign that helps parents, family, friends, and communities create quality early learning opportunities for young children.  Through national public service advertising, parent materials and community mobilization activities, it provides "do-able" able steps that fun, easy, and can be taken in everyday moments to prepare young children for school.

Research shows that early learning can provide adults with greater success in life, fewer involvements in crime, higher income, and higher education levels.  Yet almost half of American kindergarteners come to school behind, according to the US Department of Education. 

At the community level, United Way of Mid-Maine's Strenghtening Children, Youth and Families Community Impact Team is partnering with organizations that impact parents and young children.
